Planning a trip to Australia for tourism, business, or to visit family?

Australia’s Visitor Visas allow you to travel for holidays, business meetings, or to see family and friends.

Whether you need a short stay visa or a long-term multiple-entry visa, we help you navigate the process with ease and confidence.

Which Visitor Visa is Right for You?

  • Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) – For tourism or visiting family, and separately for business visits. In the Tourist stream the Department may grant a stay of 3, 6 or 12 months. The Business Visitor stream is granted for a stay of up to 3 months.
  • Electronic Travel Authority (Subclass 601) – For eligible passport holders. Stay up to 3 months each visit, within a 12 month validity period. The Department requires ETA applications to be made through the Australian ETA app.
  • eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651) – For eligible European passport holders. Stay up to 3 months each visit, within a 12 month validity period.

Not sure which visa suits your travel plans? Suman Dua, our Registered Migration Agent (MARN 1800859), assesses your eligibility and explains what may apply to your situation.

Visa criteria, streams and periods of stay are set by the Australian Government and can change. We check the current requirements on the Department's visitor visa page before we advise you.

The Challenges of Applying for a Visitor Visa

Many applicants find the financial requirements and eligibility criteria hard to work through. Common challenges include:

  • Uncertainty about visa eligibility
  • Insufficient financial documents proving they can support their stay
  • Risk of visa refusal due to errors or missing information
  • Delays in processing due to incomplete applications
  • Concerns about travel restrictions and visa conditions

Even small mistakes can lead to delays or visa refusals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I stay on a Visitor Visa?

The period of stay is decided by the Department of Home Affairs and depends on your visa type, your stream and your circumstances:

Subclass 600, Tourist stream: The Department may grant a stay of 3, 6 or 12 months
Subclass 600, Business Visitor stream: A stay of up to 3 months
Subclass 601 (ETA): Up to 3 months each visit, within a 12 month validity period
Subclass 651 (eVisitor): Up to 3 months each visit, within a 12 month validity period
Can I work on a Visitor Visa?

No. Visitor visas do not allow you to work in Australia. If you intend to work, a work visa is the pathway to look at instead.

The Department does allow limited business visitor activities on these visas, such as attending a conference or negotiating, which is not the same as working. We can explain what falls on each side of that line for your situation. The exact conditions on your own visa are shown in your grant notice and in VEVO.

How much money do I need to show for my visitor visa?

There is no single fixed amount. The Department requires you to have enough funds to support your stay and to leave Australia. What is enough depends on how long you are staying and your circumstances.

How long does visa processing take?

Processing times are set and published by the Department of Home Affairs and change regularly, so we do not publish fixed timeframes here. No migration agent can influence or speed up how long the Department takes.

You can check the current times for your visa on the Department's visa processing times tool. We will talk through the timeframes that may apply to your situation at your consultation.

What if my visa is refused?

If your visa is refused, we assess the reasons given in the decision and talk you through your options.

Depending on where you applied from and your circumstances, that may mean lodging a new and better documented application, or seeking review where a review right applies. Not every visitor visa refusal carries a review right, so we check that first and tell you plainly which options are open to you.

Can you guarantee my visitor visa will be approved?

No. No migration agent can guarantee a visa outcome or a processing time. All visa decisions are made solely by the Department of Home Affairs.

What we can do is prepare a thorough, well-evidenced application that addresses the criteria the Department applies, and tell you honestly if we think your situation is difficult.
