What Is the 186 Visa?
The subclass 186 visa allows skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian employer to become permanent residents. Unlike the 482 visa, which is temporary, the 186 gives you PR from day one.
Three Streams Under the 186 Visa
Direct Entry Stream
- For applicants who have not worked in Australia on a 482 visa
- Requires a skills assessment
- Must meet the requirements directly

Temporary Residence Transition (TRT)
- For workers who have been on a 482 visa for at least 2 years
- Employer nominates you for the same role
Labour Agreement Stream

- Used where applicable under approved arrangements
