In a recent interview with ABC Radio, the Minister of Home Affairs Claire O'Neill announced that the Labour Government will prioritize offshore visas, and only offshore applicants from now on will be considered for the Global Talent Visa. There are 8448 places allocated to global talent visas in this financial year.


Australia is seeking exceptionally talented individuals across a range of priority sectors who can bring exceptional new skills and knowledge to Australia, and they must:

  • Have the potential to make a significant economic impact

  • Have been recognized with international distinction as a leader in one of the priority sectors

  • Generate employment, particularly in areas that fill critical supply chain and talent gaps

  • Commercialize ideas at scale

  • Act as a connector between industries

  • Make an impact as an innovator or serial entrepreneur

  • Have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work high-income threshold.

Please note that from 1 July 2022, the high-income threshold has increased from $158,500 to $162,000.


Global Talent Visa Priority Sectors are:

  • Resources

  • Advanced Manufacturing

  • Agrifood and Agtech

  • Circular Economy

  • Energy

  • Defense

  • Digitech

  • Education

  • Financial services and Fintech

  • Health Industries

  • Infrastructure

  • Space

  • Tourism

To meet the visa requirements for the Global Talent Visa:

  • Be prominent and have an internationally recognized record of exceptional achievement in one of Australia's priority sectors.

  • Be nominated by an Australian Citizen, an Australian permanent resident, an eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organization with a national reputation in the applicant's sector.

  • Be an asset to the Australian Community

  • Have the ability to establish themselves in Australia as a priority sector.

  • Meet health, character, and national security requirements.

There are two steps for the application.

Step one: Submit an Expression of Interest using the online Global Talent contact form.

Step two: Once invited, apply for a visa online via ImmiAccount.


Australia's digital economy strategy 2030 sets out Australia's plan to become a leading digital economy and society. This means thriving high-growth industries, access to digital skills and technology, frictionless government service delivery, and integrity data and technologies. Australia is looking for talented individuals who can contribute across the Digitech ecosystem, including in innovative manufacturing, cybersecurity, finance, travel, communication, digital games and immersive technology, and transformative technologies, which closely connect the physical with the digital world.


Some of the Specialisations that the applicant could have are:

  • Data Science

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

  • Specialization in Automation and robotics

  • Big data, data management, and analysis

  • Blockchain technology

  • Cloud computing

  • 5G

  • Cyber security detection and prevention

  • Data and eResearch Infrastructure

  • SmarTech and Disruptive tech

  • Front-end Development

  • Internet of Things

  • Immersive Technologies, including virtual, augmented, and extended reality.

  • IT integrated control systems for plant and machinery.

  • Machine learning engineering

  • Network Engineering or Architecture

  • Production and Development of Digital Video Games and Game Engine Technology Quantum Information and Computing

  • Smart cities

  • Specialize knowledge in software and mobile application development

  • 3D printing

Australia is looking for exceptional candidates, and some of the profiles that Australia is looking for are :

  • Founders and inventors of deep technology.

  • IP associated with Digitech

  • Expert in human-centered design and design thinking, experienced in designing sites, apps, and online optimization strategies for high-end IT firms

  • Chief Information Officer is driving initiatives in virtualization, cloud, internet of things, and cybersecurity across entire corporations.

  • Entrepreneur of an award-winning video game developer company that has developed a number of original titles targeted at wide intl audiences

  • Researched and Expert in software, platforms, game engine, and AR/VR/XR tech, including exemplary coders.

Some professions would not usually meet the program's parameters. These generally are the Application Specialisations:

  • Business analysts

  • Developers and ICT consultants without international experience

  • ICT support center management
