Are you waiting for your permanent residency invitation in Australia? Big news – the Department of Home Affairs has finally conducted the much-anticipated 189 invitation round on the 21st of August 2025, and some applicants also received invitations under the 491 Family Sponsored Stream. Let’s dive into the results and what this means for you.

189 Invitation Round Update

Now, let’s talk about the update.

The last invitation round before this one was back in November 2024, so applicants have been waiting anxiously for almost 9 months. Finally, on 21 August 2025, invitations were issued — and here’s what we’ve seen so far, based on internal data:

Health and Education Occupations

  • Registered Nurses, Social Workers, and General Practitioners were invited between 80–90 points.

  • Early Childhood Teachers and secondary teachers also received invitations in the 80–90 points range.

  • Physiotherapists were invited from 80 points.

  • University Lecturers were invited starting from 80 points.

Construction & Trades (Clear Winners)

  • Carpenters, Bricklayers, Plumbers, and Electricians received invitations between 65–75 points.

  • Some even received invites at the minimum threshold of 65 points.

Other Professions

  • Food Technologists were invited at 90 points.

  • Construction Project Managers were invited at 90 points.

Notably Missing

No invitations were seen for IT professionals, Chefs, or Motor Mechanics this round.

So, the Department’s focus is very clear: Construction workers, Health professionals, and Teachers are the top priority.

491 Family Sponsored Stream

Alongside the 189 round, we also saw invitations under the 491 Family Sponsored Stream, which opens up another great opportunity for eligible applicants with family members in Australia.
